Nashville doesn’t exactly ease into the holidays. By the time the season gets going, gardens are covered in lights, the Ryman is filling its calendar with Christmas concerts, and downtown has dressed for the occasion.
That's what makes a winter trip here different. The best Nashville holiday events aren't interchangeable holiday attractions that could happen in any city. Music, Southern traditions, over-the-top light displays, and downtown celebrations give Christmas in Nashville its own personality.
Staying downtown puts many of the city’s holiday happenings within easy reach, and Noelle puts you right in the middle of it.
Walk Through a Million Lights at Cheekwood
Holiday LIGHTS at Cheekwood has become one of Nashville's signature Christmas traditions.
The historic estate transforms its gardens with a one-mile walking trail featuring more than one million lights. It's the kind of display worth slowing down for rather than driving past with the windows up. Previous seasons have also included s'mores by the fire, seasonal drinks, a Holiday Marketplace, and elaborate Christmas décor inside the Cheekwood Mansion.
Cheekwood is about eight miles southwest of downtown, so give yourself time to wander the grounds, warm up by the fire, and take in the mansion before heading back downtown.
Hear Christmas Music Where Nashville Does Music Best
In Music City, it only makes sense that some of Nashville’s favorite holiday traditions happen onstage.
The Ryman Auditorium fills its 2026 holiday calendar with seasonal shows from some familiar Nashville names. The lineup includes Little Big Town, Lady A, and Amy Grant and Vince Gill’s long-running Christmas at the Ryman, a tradition that has returned to the Mother Church for more than a decade.
For another distinctly Nashville take on a holiday classic, Nashville Ballet’s Nashville's Nutcracker returns to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center November 27 through December 27. The production weaves the familiar story through Nashville’s history, drawing inspiration from the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition, with Tchaikovsky’s score performed live by the Nashville Symphony.
From Christmas concerts at the Mother Church to a hometown reimagining of The Nutcracker, Nashville puts its own stamp on the sounds of the season.
Shop Local at Nashville’s Holiday Markets
For a holiday tradition closer to home base, head to Walk of Fame Park for the Nashvillage Holiday Market. Returning December 3-6 and December 10-13, the downtown market brings together local makers and artisans alongside seasonal drinks, live music, and special events, including the annual tree lighting, a Holiday Cocktail Bash, and photos with Santa.
The Nashville Fairgrounds also hosts two of the city’s biggest holiday shopping events. Christmas Village is a long-running Nashville tradition, bringing together more than 250 merchants with everything from holiday décor and handcrafted goods to clothing, jewelry, and seasonal treats from November 13-15. Then Porter Flea Holiday Market returns December 11-12 with more than 200 curated independent makers offering handmade goods, art, homewares, and plenty of gift-worthy finds.
Whether you’re looking for something made in Nashville or just prefer your holiday shopping with a little more personality than a mall, make sure to leave some room in the suitcase.
Find Nashville’s Festive Holiday Bars & Pop-Ups
Nashville’s holiday spirit isn’t limited to lights and Christmas concerts. Each winter, bars around the city trade their usual look for twinkling lights, over-the-top décor, and cocktail menus built for the season.
At Noelle, Rare Bird heads for the mountains with Alpine Village, a rooftop winter escape pairing Nashville skyline views with twinkling lights, cozy blankets, festive cocktails, warm drinks, and seasonal bites.
Downstairs, Santa Baby at Hidden Bar takes a moodier approach. The tucked-away bar transforms into a lavish holiday escape with decadent décor, festive cocktails, and a more grown-up take on Christmas.
Beyond Noelle, the Tennessee Whiskey Trail gets into the holiday spirit with Carols & Barrels, a seasonal celebration that transforms participating Nashville distilleries with festive décor, holiday cocktails, and special experiences. It’s an especially Nashville way to trade the traditional Christmas bar crawl for a tour through Tennessee whiskey country.
Build a Holiday Weekend Instead of a Holiday Checklist
The best way to experience Nashville Christmas events isn't to race through as many as possible.
Pick a big light display. Save one evening for a concert or performance. Leave another stretch of time open for downtown, dinner, a holiday cocktail, and whatever catches your eye along the way.
With Noelle as your downtown home base, you can head out for Nashville’s biggest holiday traditions and come back to a stay that feels just as festive. Make a weekend of it with the Holiday Glow package, which includes a Noelle Signature Candle, a $100 dining credit, and up to 20% off room rates with a two-night minimum stay.
Book your Nashville stay, give yourself at least a couple of nights, and see why the holidays are a pretty good excuse to come back to Music City.
